As part of its long commitment to furthering an understanding of mission and to nurture a missionary spirit in the modern world, the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America (also known as Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers) has established the Center for Mission Research and Study (CMRSM) at Maryknoll, NY. This Center had its beginnings as the Center for Mission Research, established as part of the Maryknoll School of Theology in January 1993.

The purpose of the center is to investigate the past and present trends, contexts and challenges of mission and to foster reflection on their practical implications. Building upon the legacy of the Maryknoll School of Theology, CMRSM is chartered as an educational institution by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York.
