In presenting the award, Molly M. Lyons, vice-chair of the academic section of the CLA, thanked Orbis Books for "not only publishing some of the most important books of the past 30 years, but for making them financially affordable for Catholic and small libraries." Accepting the award, Michael Leach praised the Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers for "their courage in publishing books that many considered controversial or prophetic at the time, but years later were recognized as gifts to the Church and to Catholic scholarship. This award from the Catholic Library Association honors Maryknoll and its vision."
Previous winners of the Jerome Award have included scholars such as Jesuits Walter J. Burghardt (author of Orbiss Long Have I Loved You) and Richard A. McCormick and publishers Cistercian Publications and The Liturgical Press, as well as Sister Claudia Carlen, I.H.M. and Michael Glazier.
