Introducing Feminist Theology responds to the questions What is feminist theology? and Why is it important? by considering the perspectives of women with very diverse life experience and relationships to God, church, and creation. Written for undergraduate and beginning graduate students as well as womens study groups, Clifford explores the three major waves of feminist theology: the First Wave of the nineteenth century when women began to interpret the Bible from their own perspective; the Second Wave of the 1960s and 1970s as Euroamerican and European feminists began to appraise critically the Christian tradition; and the Third Wave of the 1980s and 1990s as women turned to social location and lived experience as part of their theologizing. Each chapter contains questions for reflection and discussion, areas for exploration, and suggested readings. The book also includes illustrations, an index, and a glossary of important terms. Anne M. Clifford is associate professor of theology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. A recipient of a Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching at Duquesne (1995), she is the author of numerous articles in the area of feminist theology, ecofeminism, and science and religion. |
